Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) was recently recognized for its exceptional contribution to the HIV response in the HIV&AIDS Leadership Award organized by the Uganda AIDS Commission. MJAP emerged 1st runner-up in the HIV&AIDS Leader of the Year -National NGO category.
MJAP was recognized for pioneering and scaling up Provider-Initiated HIV Testing and Counseling and the integrated TB/HIV services model that were subsequently adopted by the Ministry of Health. Currently, MJAP provides comprehensive services in Mulago, Butabika, Mbarara University, and Makerere University hospitals, and 22 health facilities in Mbarara district.
Each year, the Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) together with HIV&AIDS Implementing partners, AIDS Development Partners (ADPs), Civil Society, People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and Ministries, Departments and Agencies celebrate and honor the contribution made by individuals and organizations for their outstanding commitment & support to the HIV/AIDS response in Uganda. The public is invited to nominate individuals and organizations that have made the unique contribution to the HIV response.
The winners were announced during the HIV/AIDS Partnership Forum that was held as part of the Joint Annual AIDS Review (JAR) 2016.
